Most experts suggest adding a whistle to the ensemble. A whistle can be used as a distress signal, or it can help a person to locate his or her family and friends if the group becomes separated. Another good tool for sending signals is an LED flashlight. Not surprisingly, a conventional flashlight should also be purchased.

Fishing equipment and traps are also objects that one may wish to invest in when assembling such a kit. One should collect hooks, strong fishing line, and even trip wire if it is available. Naturally, bringing nonperishable food that can be cooked over fire is also in one's best interest.

A good supply of matches or several cigarette lighters are also important items. Consumers should consider adding fire starting sticks to the pack as well. Finally, one should invest in a first aid kit that includes Band-Aids, antiseptics, gauze, and possibly antibiotics are painkillers if they are available. Ultimately, any consumer who invests in emergency survival kits will be better prepared to face a natural disaster or man-made catastrophe.
