Quiet Dumb Guy explains the NSA

We just had a century full of examples of why this sort of governmental behavior is irresponsible and dangerous. Yet people still hear 'If you have nothing to hide..'. Bullshit. Now, I'm not making a direct comparison to the current state of affairs and the Brownshirts or SS but we did fight two World Wars, the Cold War and a dozen armed conflicts over these same issues. Your average American aka the QDG understands the deal, why don't you?

'First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.' - Martin Niemöller

Brad Pitt's 1st Carrier Launch, Fake?

There has been much discussion on the message boards about the now infamous carrier launch scene in Brad Pitt's "World War Z" zombie epic. In the scene an Antov-12 cargo plane launches from an aircraft carrier to send Pitt's character on his worldwide search for a zombie cure. In the video below you can plainly see that the US military has been launching C-130s and several other cargo planes off the deck of aircraft carriers for a very long time. After seeing the movie I can also confirm that there is not one scene that is militarily impossible. The armies of the world have weapons and logistical capabilities far beyond what most average people could fathom.

World War Z's first footage.....

Brad Pitt has finally gotten the troubled zombie epic moving again. This Thursday on E he will be introducing the first trailer. Based on the few seconds we see it looks like the zombies are supernaturally fast and fluid like the Flood from the Halo series. There does not look like there is much hope for the long awaited film adaptation of Max Brooks' masterpiece of a world on the brink of collapse under the weight of SLOW AND SHAMBLING Romero style walkers.
What do you think about this sneak-peek?
Fast Zombies or Slow Zombies?
Does the movie have a John Carter's chance of success?

Brad Pitt not talking about World War Z

Our hopes for a great film adaptation of Max Brook's "World War Z", the definitive modern day Zombie survival novel, appear to be rapidly evaporating. Director Marc Forster and Executive Producer/Star Brad Pitt appear to be on "Non-speaking" terms. Using Paramount studio executives as 'go-betweens' the troubled $170 million movie needs at least 3 more weeks of shooting and the key decision makers are not even returning each others calls. News has leaked that Forster lost control of the production and the film's ending needs to be completely re-shot on location in Hungary. Even if Forster is completely replaced union rules state he must be on scene for the shooting AND will get director credit.

From the story on Vulture

"Production sources tell Vulture that it is Pitt, not Forster, who has final approval over all the new pages generated by whatever writers work on the project over the next three weeks. And the communication breakdown between actor and director over how to reshoot it severely limits Paramount’s ability to foresee an end to production. Until the pages are approved, a budget cannot be calculated. And until a budget is tallied, the amount of time that will be spent to make the changes can’t be determined, either."

The long awaited film has been plagued by a string of missteps and mistakes which have all been laid at the feet of its inexperienced Director Marc Forster:
  • Budapest authorities seized the prop weapons during shooting. Apparently nobody checked to see if it was ok to dress actors up in SWAT/Military gear armed with functional automatic weapons. Hungary is known for its very stringent gun control regulations.
  • Babylon 5 creator  J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote what zombie fans refer to as an "Outstanding" screenplay adaptation of the book, was let go just prior to production. The new film was to focus on action and running zombies much to the chagrin of WWZ fans.
  • Crew rumors strongly indicated that Marc Forster had no clue about handling large scale action movies. Leaving various seconds and unit directors autonomy to do whatever they felt like.
  • After wrapping and returning to the US the film was declared 'unfinished, but salvageable' by Paramount Pictures.
  •
Zombie Fans hold out hope that the movie can be pulled out of the trash bin and restored to the intended masterpiece of the genre Brad Pitt wanted to make. Sometimes labors of love require a a painful labor.

Hornady's "Zombie Max" Ammunition

In reality this ammo is nothing more than Varmint grade high expansion, low penetration, low recoil rounds designed for ground hogs and coyotes. We suggest standard military ball for maximum penetration of the skull and ease of re-casting and reloading in case of extended survival situations. Still, the idea of ammunition companies marketing to the "Zombie Hunters" is a nod to the popularity of the very niche horror genre.

World War Z "Zombie Flight" comes true...

Dead Man Flying!!!
A Swedish woman received a partial, $713, refund from Kenya Airways after she was forced to sit near a dead man during an international flight.
Lena Pettersson had just boarded her Tanzania-bound flight at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol when she noticed a man in his 30s looking unwell, the Expressen daily reported.
Pettersson, a journalist with Sveriges Radio, told the broadcaster that the man “was sweating and had cramps .”
After the Kenya Airways plane took off, the man died, the Expressen reported. Cabin crew laid out the dead man across three seats and covered him with a blanket — but left his legs and feet sticking out, Pettersson said.
For the remainder of the overnight flight, Pettersson was forced to sit near the dead man, with just an aisle separating her and the corpse.
